Rebuild These Ruins

Written sometime around Aug 30th, 1999 by Justin Brock. Category: Songs

Sometimes she just wants a quiet place
She’d gladly share with poor who pray
Her soul a cathedral
Leave all of the bustle outside
St. peter’s can’t hold
All the emptiness she hides.
Sometimes everyone’s so curious
But she’s left her past for better days
Though vaguely she see’s them
Her memories make no sound
She prayed, “rebuild these ruins up from the ground

And I’ll call all the saints to worship
Come look what the lord has done
I was toppled and broken,
Not a stone on the other,
He set back every one.”

Morning breaks. The sound awakes her.
Dawn gently shakes her with the light
The heart of the darkness
has seen the light of day
And left all the shadows
To warm in morning’s rays.
Morning’s new mercies wear a quiet face
Her tears now shimmer with the dew.
The midnight was restless
with crying out for help
Preaching the gospel to herself.

Now she calls all the saints to worship
“Come let sweet praise resound.
Oh I felt the fall
Of Jericho walls
But he’s rebuilt these ruins from the ground”
