Prism

I wrote this song in October of 1999. I was living in Lafayette, Louisiana at the time. It’s one of the first songs I wrote for myself. I had written a number of songs about myself, my pain, my anger, my whatever. There had also been songs for other people, written to encourage or empathize with them. Prism was the first one I wrote for me, to encourage me. It did, and still does.

Prism

I will give you eyes of prism to break the light
to see with covenant-colored sight
I will teach your mind to imagine, your soul to dream
and clear the shadows of each fearful thing

and know the plans I have for you
are wilder than your sweetest dreams
behold the good I offer you
future fair for the imagining

I will move my love from the corners of your eyes
and spread it wider than west Texas skies
I’ll redeem the twilight years of your wanderings
and grant you hope in blue and mirth in green

and know the plans I have for you
are wilder than your sweetest dreams
behold the good I offer you
future fair for the imagining
