Matthew’s Song

Written sometime around Sep 1st, 1999 by Justin Brock. Category: Songs

Matthew is forgetting how to speak
Nothing says what he’s been trying to mean
He stutters until silence speaks his pain
But I feel his eyes, I know his name

Matthew he can never play it safe
Tells me “friend, this girl is redefining grace.
She knows how to put me in my place
On my knees, on my face”

Baby, look at our sand castles so tall
But don’t we overlook their line of fault
Till we can’t miss the writing on the wall
“all who build here will fall”

So let those ruins lay there in the sand
Come up from the rubble take my hand
We will wander where the moon meets the sea
Wash our feet and plunge in deep
