Anesthesia

Written sometime around Jul 2nd, 2010 by Justin Brock. Category: Songs

Anesthesia is a song I wrote to a friend [J.C.] at Belhaven. I think it was the 1997-8 year. Anyway, she knew it was for her … and she doesn’t need any now.

Anesthesia

Perhaps your way is rougher than you hoped for
and Lonely is the only person knocking at your door.
If you open to his call, you’ll find you’re not alone at all
and see him blaze a trail before you.

You don’t need no anesthesia –
you lose the pain, you lose your mind –
but I’ll be here till I see you
leave those thorns and nails behind.

Perhaps your cross is bigger than your sought for
and the mountain rises more each time you climb.
Do not faint beneath the weight of all these borrowed burdens –
He never lets you carry just your own.

You don’t need no anesthesia –
you lose the pain, you lose your mind –
but I’ll be here till I see you
leave those thorns and nails behind.

Don’t lie to me.
I see beneath a burning -
Your eyes are shadows of the light behind.
Don’t lie to me
when I know you are hurting;
I could help you lift the cross you hang on.
